Compliance Check Types define safety and compliance inspections recorded against properties, such as gas servicing, fire safety inspections and electrical testing. Affinity supplies a starting library that you can customise.
Open Admin → Settings, then select Compliance Check Types (Properties) under Property Settings.
Adding a Compliance Check Type
- Select Add Compliance Check Type.
- Complete the required fields below.
- Select Add.

| Compliance Check Type | A unique name of up to 64 characters, such as Gas Boiler Service. |
| Standard Cost | The typical cost of carrying out the check in the currency shown. Asset Management uses it for future compliance expenditure. |
| Service Interval (Years) | A positive whole number of years between services, used for Asset Management compliance schedules and Stock Condition Costs. |
| Default Expiration (Months) | The default validity period. When a check is recorded, Affinity calculates its expiry by adding this number of months to the inspection date and subtracting one day. The calculated expiry can be amended on the check. |
Editing a Type
- Select the type’s name in the list.
- Choose Options → Edit Compliance Check Type.
- Update the name, cost or intervals.
- Select Update.
Use the default expiration for certificate validity and the service interval for Asset Management scheduling; the two fields use different units and purposes.
Deleting a Type
- Open the type’s details.
- Choose Options → Delete Compliance Check Type.
- Confirm the deletion.
The type becomes inactive and is removed from Asset Management Profiles that included it. Existing recorded inspections are retained. Review where a type is used before retiring it.
Asset Management
When the optional Asset Management add-on is enabled, these types can be selected for properties and Asset Management Profiles. Standard Cost and Service Interval contribute to projected compliance expenditure and Stock Condition Costs.
Creating a type or selecting it for Asset Management does not record a completed inspection. Record inspections and certificates against the relevant property.
Maintaining the Library
Review costs and intervals when maintenance contracts or inspection programmes change. Use separate types where equipment has different costs or servicing frequencies—for example, Gas Boiler Service, Oil Boiler Service, Air Source Heat Pump Service and Solar PV Inspection.
Set the email reminder lead time separately in Alert Settings. For communal checks, use Compliance Check Types (Housing Groups and Blocks).
